A photoshoot for scriptwriter and local poet, Argh Kid (David Scott).

Tagged a “thinking man’s Shaun Ryder” he combines monkey business, melancholy, grit and wisdom. Hilarious drug escapades in ‘Tripping with Jackie Chan.’ Questioning race and identity in ‘Beige Boy.’ Also championing home with civic pride on ‘…So Much To Answer For’. Argh Kid “Brings humour, heart and a whole range of genuine emotion to his work.” With tales of friendship & fighting to drugs, music & love. It’s a superb fresh mix of stinging social commentary and pub-toilet-sink realism.

David, a self-confessed fan of Paul’s Manchester photography and gritty black-and-white urban style, reached out to him. He asked for assistance with a photoshoot in Manchester City Centre.

The brief was to capture Manchester’s industrial heritage merged with the modern version, reflecting David’s unique voice. He would use the press photography for his press releases and make them available for download from the Greater Manchester Fringe Press Info section. He was due to perform in July 2016.

Time was limited though – because of his job as a freelance writer – so they headed to the most Mancunian location we could think of that was instantly recognisable – Castlefield. It is used a lot for this kind of shoot but ultimately it does what you want it to do. And that is to provide an urban background that spans the ages.

David was great to photograph and it was great fun. However, it was hard to concentrate over his posing and constant chatter which was for the most part incredibly funny.

“Due to my profession in the arts I’ve been fortunate to have been shot by some fantastic photographers as well as the not so good so I can say with confidence that Paul is up there with the best. I required some new shots for my Fringe Festival gig and had never met him before but was a fan of his cityscapes and wanted to incorporate that into my look. Upon our initial conversation he got the brief straight away and I never felt awkward in how he directed me on the shoot and the suggestions of location and pose were spot on. I was really impressed when I received the finished images back, both in terms of quality and speed. ”
